Colorguard
Colorguard is the expression of music through the medium of movement. It is considered both a sport and an art. Although physically demanding and competitive, the performers use music and scenery to set the stage, combined with dance, flags, rifles, sabers, costumes and expression to create a show. Colorguard is a year round activity with two distinct seasons: Field Season and Winter Guard. It is a lot like other sports, you don’t truly understand it until you have the opportunity to participate in it.
This course is designed to develop and increase skill in performing with the body (dance) and equipment (flag, rifle, and saber), and to teach the principles of staging and drill. Class instruction includes daily exercise, dance and equipment fundamentals for the purpose pf performing at competitions and community events. This course may be repeated for credit. A wellness unit provides opportunities and an understanding of making healthy personal choices, physical fitness testing, goal setting, and nutritional Information.
Colorguard prepares for the Winter Season right after Marching Season. This year the guard team will compete on WGASC and WGI circuits. Planned competitions may include: World Championships (Dayton, OH) and WGI Regionals.

Parade Costume Fund Drive Continues
As you may or may not know, the guard is trying to raise enough money to buy new parade costumes. The costumes we have are over 15 years old, and are literally falling apart at the seams!
We are getting close to our goal, but we need your help! Our ultimate goal is $4000 to buy a complete set,so that we have enough as our guard continues to grow. However, we can order enough for the guard to wear this year with just a little over $2000!
Click here for flyer with all the pertinent information on it. For your convenience you can donate on line at www.vhscolorguard.com, or there is a PO Box you can mail a check to, or if you have a student at the school they can put it in the black box: Attention Colorguard.
If you or anyone you know who may be interested in helping us out, it would be greatly appreciated! Remember it is a donation and as we are a non-profit organization, your donation is tax deductible!
