Band Night and Parent Meeting Recap
It was so wonderful to see so many new faces last Monday! We trust it was a good introduction to what life is like in the Tiger Regiment for incoming students and parents. And we hope it was a nice recap for those who have been with us the past year or more. As you could see, there is a lot of excitement brewing for next season and we can’t wait to do it with all of you!
That night, a packet was given to parents that not only has a lot of great information about the program, but also several forms that we’re asking every parent of an incoming and returning Tiger Regiment student to complete. If you didn’t get one or need a new packet, we hope to have these available online soon. But until that time, have your student pick one up from the band room. Just ask Rudy or Mr. King for one.
One of the forms is a sports physical that needs to be completed by a physician. These are required for anyone participating in the Tiger Regiment this fall and needs to be completed before band camp this summer. You’re welcome to get your sports physical done through your primary care provider or any other facility.
However, for those needing a simple solution, Valencia is hosting a one-day opportunity to get their sports physical completed. It will be on Wednesday May 25 from 3-6pm at the Valencia HS Gym. The cost will be $35 and checks will need to be made out to Valencia Athletics.
Blue Scoop Fundraiser – May 10 2pm-10pm
We have a cool fundraiser coming up tomorrow, Tuesday, May 10! Come support the Tiger Regiment by getting a cool refreshing scoop of ice cream at Blue Scoop Creamery! It’s located at 5105 Richfield Road in Yorba Linda – on the corner of Yorba Linda Blvd near Lamppost Pizza.
Come anytime between 2PM and 10PM and be sure to mention Valencia High School so the Tiger Regiment gets credit.
As an extra special treat, our very own Mr. Arevalos (aka Rudy) will be there to scoop your ice cream between 5pm and 7pm. Come show him some love!
While there’s no need to show them the flyer, there is one available on our Fundraising page which you can use to share on your social channels. We just need to make sure everyone mentions they are there for the Valencia HS Tiger Regiment fundraiser!
End of Year Banquet & Awards Night – May 26
Mark your calendars for the evening of Thursday, May 26 as we celebrate the end of another great year for the Tiger Regiment.
It will be at Placentia Presbyterian Church just across the street from the school. It will be a fully catered banquet where we will hand out a number of awards and announce next year’s student leadership team.
We will have tickets available for purchase shortly and anticipate them to be $20 per person. Stay tuned for more updates, but we wanted to make sure you got it on your calendar for Thursday evening, May 26.

Music in the Parks – May 14, 21, and June 4
This past Saturday, we hosted another great Music in the Parks event where we welcomed 9 schools from around the region. It’s so much fun to interact with many different groups who are doing their best to give their students a great band experience, just like the Tiger Regiment!
We have three more weekends available if anyone is interested in helping out – May 14, May 21, and June 4. The times are roughly 7:30am to 2pm, though these are dependent on the number of bands we’re hosting. If you’re interested, please email firstname.lastname@example.org and let us know.
In addition, we always need students to help with stage crew, student guides, and more…and they can get community service hours by serving! There will be sign up sheets in the band room, so encourage your students to help out in one or more of the remaining Saturdays.
Board Nominations for 2022-23 School Year
At the Band Night and Parent Meeting last week, we also shared our current executive board members and what the need will be for the next school year. The list of open positions are below. If you’re interested in nominating yourself or someone else who has expressed interest, please click the link below to complete the nomination form.
Treasurer: Prepares and maintains the VIP budget & financial statements, including general and family donated funds; tracks accounts payable and accounts received; maintains VIP bank accounts; prepares monthly reports for VIP board meetings.
Secretary: Responsible for maintaining accurate minutes for all board and booster meetings, liaising with VHS front office staff, and assisting the Band Director with collection, verification, and filing of all department, school, and district-required forms (medical forms, releases, transportation authorizations, etc.).
VP Logistics: Responsible for overseeing set up, operations, and tear down at our hosted shows, as well as maintenance and upkeep of all Tiger Regiment equipment, including trailers, equipment carts, electrical and lighting equipment, etc. Works with the volunteer coordinator on staffing of events, Blue Crew members, etc.
VP Drumline: Works with Staff on maintaining our Drum Line and Concert Line ensembles, including organizational memberships for ensemble competitions, costume and equipment purchasing, and coordination with the Logistics VP to facilitate equipment repair and upkeep and logistical requirements for travel to events. The Drum Line VP will also assist in planning for our annual hosted Drum Line competition at VHS.
VP Colorguard: Works with Staff on maintaining our Color Guard ensemble, including organizational memberships for ensemble competitions, costume and equipment purchasing, and coordination with the Logistics VP to facilitate equipment repair and upkeep and logistical requirements for travel to events. The Color Guard VP will also assist in planning for our annual hosted Color Guard competition at VHS.
VP Jazz: Works with Staff on maintaining our jazz ensembles, including festival applications and entry fees, planning for our major annual jazz trip, and planning for our annual Jazz Guest Artist event.
Our next parent meeting will be Tuesday May 24 at 7PM and we will be meeting in the Valencia Band Room. Please make sure you have that date on your calendar and join us for an informative meeting.
At the meeting, we will also need parents to approve nominations for next year’s executive board (see above for open positions). We encourage you to submit nominations for open positions and especially to attend and be part of all that’s happening now and in the coming months!
